We're Wellbeing Winners!
We are utterly thrilled that our Kent Soul Choirs have been honoured with a prestigious East Kent Mind Mental Wellbeing Award, recognising the outstanding contribution the community choir brings to mental health and wellbeing across the county and beyond.
Along with Directors, Abi and Ross, and Senior Leader, Eleanor, we attended the East Kent Mind Awards ceremony on the 26th of October. Our award celebrates the choir's ongoing commitment to raising awareness of mental health and the power that singing brings in supporting people as they go through dark times.
It was a wonderful, heart warming evening where we celebrated the organisations in Kent who are going above and beyond to help and encourage positive mental wellbeing - something we wholeheartedly support and promote. We came away feeling proud and inspired.
UK Soul Choir, founded by singer Abi Gilchrist over 14 years ago, has long been dedicated to the idea that music can heal and uplift. With members from all walks of life, backgrounds and ages, Soul Choirs provide a safe, inclusive environment where people can come together to sing, chat, make friends and take vital time out for themselves.
Throughout the years, we have consistently advocated for mental health awareness and have been actively involved in various local initiatives to support mental wellbeing, including producing our own music video in lockdown and raising well over ten thousand pounds for Mind, in memory of a much-loved choir member who took his own life.
We will continue to fly the flag for positive mental health, wellbing and acceptance. Singing and music always HAS and always WILL bring people together and we're proud to be able to help make that happen through our Choir community!
