Summer Festival of Singing Highlights
After the success of last year's event, we were so excited to run another Festival of Singing day in June at our Hither Green rehearsal venue open to ALL members from across London and Kent.
This year we were so thrilled to have previous 'Swingle Singer' and all round choir and singing guru, Clare Wheeler, with us to run the mornings workshop incorporating some amazing and challenging vocal improvisation along with detailed work on two of this term songs 'Brighter Days' and 'Teardrops'. Both songs were vastly improved with Clare's brilliant work on body, movement and sound connection along with diction and phrasing.
After a lunchtime stroll around the park and time for meeting and catching up with choir friends, we continued the day with an afternoon of singing with our Directors Abi and Ross. This began with an energy re-boost to get concentration back followed by sectionals where Ross and Abi could work on the sound quality of each voice part in more depth. This was a great opportunity to do more focused work on the areas most needed by the Sopranos, Altos and Tenors which we don't often get time to do in our weekly rehearsals. We then went on to some more detailed practise on two more of this terms songs 'Gotta Be / New York' and 'Bad Mama Jama / Get Down on it' working on getting these funky songs really energised and tight.
We topped off this full day of singing with a performance at the Manor House Gardens Festival just round the corner from our workshop venue which was a great chance to put all the days hard work into practise!
We are already looking forward to planning next year's Festival of Singing - such a worthwhile and brilliant day of singing and catching up with choir friends from all branches.
