Cake and a song, anyone?!
It was a joyous week of sessions at all 14 branches of Soul Choirs!
To highlight and celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, we mixed up our usual format to include a mid session 'pause' where we all took a moment to check in with one another and enjoy a slice of cake...or two!
We also invited members to bring along a 'friend' - this could have been a partner, neighbour or someone in their lives who they felt might find Soul Choirs enjoyable. The idea behind this was to encourage people to join us without any pressure; it enabled them to experience the wonderful benefits that singing in a group can offer to improve mood and positive mental well-being in a relaxed way with no other expectations.
Soul Choirs members, and those who follow our journey, will be acutely aware that we are the biggest advocates of the power that singing can have. As well as the physical attributes, it's a binding experience that unites and naturally creates a community. It offers a sense of belonging and enables you to meet new and exciting people from all walks of life and, from the off, you already have a huge mutual interest - a love of music and singing!
The generous cake and treat donations poured in and, after all learning an uplifting section of our rousing arrangement of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', we tucked in, chatted and had a good giggle - it was a fantastic atmosphere!
We also proudly collected for Papyrus, this term's chosen charity, who we'll be continuing to collect for at our Summer Festival Term performances. This is a charity very closely connected to one of our members and we'll share more about them and the fantastic work they do at the end of our brilliant, upcoming events!
Across the board, we can confidently say that these sessions were a huge success! A large amount of the invited 'friends' have actually decided to join us after their experience - this is the biggest compliment and cements the message we are always keen to deliver - SINGING MAKES YOU HAPPY (the cake, of course, may have played a part too..!).
